Katharina Mayer-Ertl

Deputy Head of Tourism Services, Federal Ministry of Economy, Energy and Tourism

Katharina Mayer-Ertl, born in 1975, studied commercial sciences with a specialisation in tourism at the Vienna University of Economics and Business. She has worked at the Ministry of Tourism since 2002, first in the Department of International Tourism Affairs and since 2013 as Deputy Head of Tourism Services. Among other things, she has been responsible for many years for topics such as mobility in tourism (e.g. organisation of the annual Tourism Mobility Day and support for the ‘Sustainable Mobility in Tourism’ platform), as well as other aspects of sustainability.

From March to July 2024, the Federal Ministry of Economy, Energy and Tourism called for projects that deal with the identification or derivation of solutions on the way to balanced tourism. 17 projects were selected based on the selection criteria of sustainability (social, ecological, economic levels), feasibility, strategic importance and innovative content as well as regional anchoring/broad involvement of various stakeholders.

Some of these projects will share their learnings and outline their progress in a specially designed "Balanced Tourism Gallery". Katharina Mayer-Ertl from the Federal Ministry of Economy, Energy and Tourism will host the gallery.
