Stefania Pitscheider Soraperra

Stefania Pitscheider Soraperra has been the director of the Frauenmuseum Hittisau since 2009. She has worked at the Kunsthistorisches Museum and the Kunsthalle Wien, among others. As an art historian, exhibition curator and cultural manager, she is interested in socio-political and feminist issues. As a member of the artist group "WochenKlausur", she has realised numerous projects at the interface between art and society, including for steirischer herbst, Shedhalle Zurich and the Venice Biennale. She is a native Ladin speaker.

The Frauenmuseum Hittisau in Bregenzerwald is the only women's museum in Austria - and the only one in a rural area worldwide. Since 2000, it has been dedicated to cultural-historical and participatory exhibitions on topics relevant to women. Cooperation with women* from the region takes centre stage: 25 cultural mediators - aged between 18 and 75, with a wide variety of educational backgrounds and from different countries - play an active role in shaping the museum's work. The museum has received several awards for its commitment, including the Austrian Museum Award in 2017 and a Special Commendation from the European Museum of the Year Awards in 2021.
